Italian packaging machinery manufacturing revenue once again broke through the 8 billion euro mark. According to preliminary data from the Italian Association of Packaging Machinery Manufacturers, the industry's total revenue in 2021 reached 8.435 billion euros, representing an 8% increase from 2020 revenue, which also exceeded 2019 revenue levels. Orders are expected to sustain production for seven months in 2022.
2021 Italian packaging machinery manufacturing domestic sales declined by 18% to 2.035 billion euros, while exports, which have always been the industry's main strength, grew by 5% year-on-year to 6.4 billion euros.
However, with factories resuming full production, production costs have increased by an average of 30%. Italian packaging companies face soaring raw material costs, rising component prices and delayed deliveries, higher land and sea transportation costs, and disproportionately increased energy costs for operating factories.
