Why do some case sealers feature an offset tape head (or misaligned sealing head)? What is the purpose of this design?
Why do some case sealers feature an offset tape head design? In most standard carton sealing machines, sealing very short (low-profile) boxes can be problematic. Take a typical top-and-bottom simultaneous sealer as an example: the upper and lower tape heads are directly aligned. When sealing a very short box, the tape rollers from the top and bottom heads may physically interfere or even collide—rendering the machine inoperable for that size.
To solve this issue, a custom sealer with offset tape heads is recommended instead of using a standard model. This specialized design significantly improves size compatibility and enables reliable automatic sealing of ultra-short cartons. Common configurations include: left-right offset tape heads, vertically offset top/bottom drive heads, side-seal offset heads, fully automatic offset-head sealers, and four-corner offset tape head sealers, among others.
