The latest global robotics report shows that the number of industrial robots operating in factories worldwide has reached an amazing 4,281,585 units, representing a 10% year-on-year increase. This marks the third consecutive year that annual new installations have exceeded five hundred thousand units. From a geographical distribution perspective, 70% of newly deployed robots in 2023 were installed in Asia, Europe accounted for 17%, and the Americas represented 10%. The automation production volume of global industrial robots reached another record high, with annual installations reaching 541,302 units in 2023, marking the second-highest historical record, only 2% lower than 2022's 552,946 units.
Asian Robotics Market:
China: As the world's largest industrial robotics market, China installed 276,288 industrial robots in 2023, accounting for 51% of the global total. Despite a slight decline, this remains the second-highest level on record. Chinese manufacturers have significantly increased their market share domestically, reaching 47%, and are expected to maintain strong growth in the coming years.
Japan: Despite a 9% decline in robot installations in 2023, Japan remains the world's second-largest industrial robotics market, installing 46,106 units.
South Korea: The market has stabilized, with 31,444 robots installed in 2023, a 1% decline year-on-year.
India: As one of the fastest-growing emerging economies in Asia, India's robot installations surged 59% to 8,510 units, with automotive sector demand increasing 139%.
European Robotics Market:
In 2023, industrial robot installations in Europe grew 9% to a new high of 92,393 units. EU countries occupied most of the share, especially Germany, as Europe's largest market, which saw installations grow 7% to 28,355 units. Other European countries such as Italy and France experienced varying degrees of decline.
Americas Robotics Market: Robot installations in the Americas have exceeded fifty thousand units for three consecutive years, with 55,389 units installed in 2023, slightly below the 2022 record.
United States: As the largest regional market, U.S. robot installations declined 5% but still reached 37,587 units, mainly concentrated in the automotive, metal, and machinery industries.
Canada and Mexico also saw significant growth in robot installations, with automotive demand particularly driving robot installations in Mexico.
The OECD predicts that despite certain risks from geopolitical headwinds, global economic growth will tend to stabilize. It is expected that in 2024, the global economic recession will bottom out and rebound, with global robot installations remaining stable at approximately 541,000 units. By 2025 and beyond, the growth rate will accelerate, showing the continuation of long-term growth trends.
